Japan seeks to expand investment in Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade announced that Japan is ready to expand trade, economic and investment co-operation in various parts of the country, according to the Uzbek Foreign Ministry’s Ministry of Investment and Trade.

Japanese Ambassador to Uzbekistan Atsushi Suda meets with Uzbekistan’s Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Sardar Umurzakov in Tashkent. At the meeting, the prospects for the development of bilateral relations were discussed.

The Japanese ambassador to Uzbekistan praised the level of relations between the two countries and their dynamics and expressed hope that the two sides would do their utmost to achieve common goals.

Uzbekistan’s Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade also announced its intentions to focus on developing trade and economic relations with Japanese partners, boosting joint ventures and trade between the two countries.

The meeting also discussed cooperation mechanisms aimed at accelerating the implementation of ongoing projects as well as the possibility of helping Japanese investors and entrepreneurs operating in Uzbekistan.

Japan is one of Uzbekistan’s largest economic and trade partners, with trade between the two countries at $ 259 million and $ 700,000 in 2016, respectively.

The Japanese government has so far provided Uzbekistan with a total of more than $ 4 billion and $ 100 million in technical and financial assistance.

In the light of Japan’s financial and technical assistance in Uzbekistan, important social and infrastructure projects have been implemented in the fields of health, education, energy, transportation, telecommunications and other aspects.

Since 1999, Tashkent has been active in the Japan regional offices of the International Cooperation Agency, the Foreign Trade Organization, as well as the Uzbekistan and Japanese Center.

Japan recognized Uzbekistan’s independence on December 28, 1991, and on January 26, 1992, political relations were established between the two countries.
